Hockey night in Canada!

The campers love hockey, and the weather has been perfect for ice skating. But instead of playing in an arena, the campers get to skate on Paul’s Lake, the same lake that provides swimming, canoeing, and fishing in the summmer.

We’ve had tonnes of snow this year - a real winter. The boys have had to work hard to clear snow off the ice, but their reward is shooting the puck around. They may dream of the big leagues (arena, lights, cheering crowds, a zamboni) but for now, they play on a lake in the light of day.

But once they get the ice cleared off, it’s time to play!

They also did a trip to the Bobby Orr Museum, to further their hockey knowledge. Somehow, learning is more fun when the topic is hockey.

As one person researched, here are some of the key benefits of hockey for boys:

  • Physical Health: Hockey is an excellent cardiovascular workout that helps build strength, endurance, and agility. It also improves hand-eye coordination and balance.

  • Mental Health: Exercise is a great stress reliever, and hockey can help boys develop mental toughness, resilience, and focus.

  • Social Skills: Being part of a team teaches boys the importance of communication, cooperation, and sportsmanship. They learn how to work together towards a common goal and build lasting friendships.

  • Character Development: Hockey can instill valuable life lessons such as discipline, dedication, and perseverance. It teaches boys how to handle both success and failure gracefully.

Hockey is fun the boys, while giving them an output for their energy and allowing them the opportunity to practice team work.

Hockey - what’s more Canadian than this, celebrating a true Canadian winter on the ice!
